Nine years! It was worth it, well done, a great Entry.
I have learned a new word 'ethnomusicologist' as well. Do you think it would benefit from a footnote with its definition?

Nice work
Here're just a couple of suggestions:
>>the ability to transcend certain genres<<
I'd suggest "specific" genres instead - I'm not sure why, but I think it's more like what you might mean.
>>having the ability to transfer the listen to another place and time<<
now about
->having the ability to transport the listener to another place and time<-
There is an absolutely gorgeous moment in the song when it becomes quiet and segues into "Sail on Silver Girl..."
I'm feeling all verklempt just thinking about it
Terrific writing

I'm so obviously out of modern cafe society conversations, I had to look it up...
I only wanted to say that I have 'Bridge over Troubled Water' in my head ever since reading your Entry yesterday. In a good way GB

all done, thanks paily
I've been playing all the versions of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' I can find on You Tube some don't do it justice but others are
I woke up this morning with 'El Condor Pasa' in my headI do love the Spanish sound on that.
I'm pleased I got this into PR in time for the 40th anniversary of the original album's first release

Hi GB,
Ethnomiscologist - I think it's more the study of music that isn't Western art music. 'Other' is a bit generic (at a stretch, people might think that's it's music other than pop!).
When we move onto side 1 to side 2, I almost missed it. Perhaps a title for each side would make this clearer. On the other hand, you might have wanted to have it as one album, and deliberately blurred the two together.
Unless you think he's a bit obscure, Acker Bilk also covered Bridge Over Troubled Water.
I'm afraid I've never heard the album, but after reading this if I have the opportunity I'll jump at it!

Hi Vip
Thanks for your review
Ethnomiscologist
Perhaps a title for each side
Acker Bilk I don't think he's obscure, but I've never heard his version and I can't find it on YouTube. Is it an instrumental or is he accompanying someone singing it?

(please also listen to Elvis' version, which Paul Simon raved about) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLbOBoa8vD8
Thank you Vip

I shall play some to my son, who didn't know it was the same 'Simon' as in Paul Simon/Graceland, which he loves and reminds him of his childhood.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 16, 2010
I believe that there is a lot more that could be said about "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright". Paul Simon wrote it as an unsubtle hint that he was going to break up with Garfunkel, then presented it to Garfunkel and got him to sing it. Garfunkel never realised it was about himself, and was really pissed off when he was told.

This is pretty good, GB. The only thing I could see wrong was that "his protégé Leona Lewis" should be "his protégée Leona Lewis" since she is female.
