I believe that this should be reviewed and considered for the Edited Guide. I think this because this article has some very important information for hitchhikers, or any travellers, going to Mexico. The article is also very neat, straightforward and useful. It lets people know what the drinking water in Mexico is like, why it is the way it is, what happens when it is consumed, and finally some remedies and prevention tips. This article is my own work.

Hi there, interesting entry!

Do you happen to know if they actually process any of their water (before/after being drunk by humans)?

Wasn't it Mexico where the term 'Montezuma's revenge' was coined, on behalf of the water quality?

You might also put in a warning for contact lens users (see http://www.h2g2.com/A441389).

What more could you ask of a guide entry than, it should be amusing and informative. Very good.

I feel I should point out though that some of the single-celled organisms and parasites that live in the water are probably very keen to be swallowed by us. We provide them with just the sorts of facilities they need for a full and satisfying life.

A good entry. Occasionally you get your " and ' mixed up (I think) worth a check anyway

Apart from the typos mentioned above, we think the entry is cool and is now reconmended. What happens next, well as if by magic this thread will dissappear from here to be added to the article. Eventually a sub-editor will start knocking it into shape - some let you know when they start this. Eventually it will appear as a edited entry.

Well Done.

I happened to come across this site while looking for "Mexico's Drinking Water", and couldn't leave until I told my story. While in Punta Cana, Mexico at a resort, I brushed my teeth 4 times a day for the 7 days we were there and with their water. Needless to say, I am still sick today because of it. I was ok while there and then the day we were leaving I awoke to vomiting, sweating, chills and fever! This continued the whole plan ride home. 2 weeks later I was finally finished with the vomiting and could finally eat. Within 6 months later, I had shed almost 20 pds. (This was not something I could ever have done in the past, to loose that weight and quickly). My mother also got very ill and lost 40 pds. in 2 months. Luckily, she had health coverage and was eventually diagnosed with a parasite in her small intestines. Today my mother is back to normal, regained her 40 pds. and has no known side effects. I on the other hand am still very ill and know it is because of the parasites in the drinking water. 6 months after returning from Mexico, I was going to the bathroom and noticed an odd unfamiliar feeling. Being only human, I stood up to investigate and to my horror was a HUGE PARASITE! I ran to get someone to show and get a second opinion from but grabbed the wrong person, my niece. She screamed and flushed the toilet! Well, there went my evidence. I researched what I had seen and it was indeed, a Parasite. Now that its gone you would think I would get better, but only worse. I have been to doctor after doctor and been told its Lupus to Cancer to Lyme Disease. I even went to a new doctor who had just moved here from her home of Mexico. She along with the others said it would be gone if there was anything. I believe they multiply and until you do something to get rid of they will keep living off you and affecting all of your organs. This is just my theory and research. I cant gain weight to save my life and am sick all the time. Before Mexico I was a healthy 30 yr. old. Now, 5 years later and still feeling symptoms. One thing that really stuck with me while there was this family of six. While there on vacation from Italy, they all got very ill and couldnt leave their room for the entirety of their trip. They claimed that they did not touch ANY water, ice, salad (rinsed with water), etc... The only other thing they could think of was they had all eaten ice-cream or from the buffet. Every meal almost is served buffet style and they could have rinsed the noodles in the water (which wouldnt have been boiled). Sorry this is so long but I feel it is so important for others to be aware of such circumstance when traveling to Mexico. Some say, "I'll drink it to loose weight"! Most people cant handle having the flu for 2 weeks without going crazy and wanting to just feel better again. Imagine having it 365 days a year for 5 years straight now. Believe me when I say, it's not worth it. Be Careful and educate yourself first! I wish I had someone warn me of this hazard before my trip. All I knew was "Don't Drink The Water"! (Which I didnt) Thank You.
