student's budgets in Brighton?

Hello there! Nice and informative article.
As a parent ready to send his (not so young any more) child for a year of study in Brighton, I was wondering what a reasonable monthly allowance would be?
Our son is going there for 2 months full-time studying, followed by part-time job/part time study for another 7 to 9 months. Once he starts his part time job, obviously he'll have to manage his own budget, but we are ready to give him a 2-months head start. The school fees cover the accomodation, so just for food and drinks and stuff...
If any one can give us a reasonable range, that would be very useful!
