I am undecided whether the title is correct.
Please give me your thoughts.
The History of the Suffragettes or Emmeline Pankhurst?

I'm not sure about the title, but it's a good article.
The paragraph at the end about some women not voting is good, but to me the point is that we now have the right to choose. I'd rather not vote then vote for someone I don't believe in.

Thank you, Mistress Mina.
I await other opinions.

I vote every time because of what they believed in, what they fought for, and one of them died for. Imagine being locked in a men's prison, because there were no women's prisons. Now that's scary. Does anyone else think the film "Mary Poppins" deserves a mention here?
Australian women had the vote since 1893...I didn't know that.

Good article. Very informative.
On the subject of Australian womens' suffrage - It was the colony of South Australia (only) where they had the vote in 1983 ... no other Australian state or territory had it. When the country Federated (on 01/01/01) they had to have uniform laws across all states. They thought of removing the vote for women from S Australia, but the women gave the politicians a hard time ... so all women in all other States got the vote in 1901 !

Just as an aside, Emmeline Pankhurst's name was bandied around in the debate of who should occupy the empty statue plinth in Trafalgar Square...
I *really* should get out more...

The title? Good enough for me. Nowadays it beggars belief that women were the property of men and had no recourse to the law for being beaten and raped in their own home.
Yes, keep Pankhurst in the title because that name is the one most associated with the movement although the matyrdom/suicide of Emily Davison is probably the one event that most people remember.
To deny anyone the vote because of their sex is unforgivable. Likewise for lack of money, colour of a person's skin, religion, etc.
That's enough from me - I'm starting to rant! Excellent article 7.

You're welcome. Look forward to reading some more from you. Haven't had time to write my own yet. It'll be about the modern Turkish town of Bodrum.

Hmmm.... And I was always taught in history that the suffragette movement caused a delay in women being granted the vote for about 10 years, and in the end it was the Suffragist movement which changed the minds of the politicians, yet the Suffragettes claimed all the credit.
You could, perhaps, mention how Emmeline Pankhurst sabotaged the Suffragist's campaign in the 1900s....?

...maybe there is potential for a suffragette/suffragist article to accompany this one about Emmeline Pankhurst herself... especially consdiering that this entry has just been accepted to go forward to the Edited Guide... Well done Seven of Nine, I look forward to seeing this go through - please be patient while the editing process progresses.
Congratulations!
