This sort of thing makes me sick!
There was an article on the news yesterday (local i think) about a house raid somewhere in this country. What the RSPCA found were loads of caged Goldfinches. The people living at the house were trapping the Goldfinches using a glue like substance on the branches of trees.
The worst thing about your story is that, while there is still demand, there will always be people willing to break the law and supply.

Thanks Venus. Yes, I know there is trapping in this country, and not too far north of me either, but I wanted to stick to the Cyprus issue. As a nation it does make us look rather two faced though, but we mustn't tar a whole nation with the same brush, there are thousands of people opposed to the trade.
No wonder I don't seem to have many goldfinches this year, so far at least.
