Sunday afternoon in London

0 Conversations

If you're ever at a loose end in London on a Sunday afternoon I can thoroughly recommend a visit to St. Paul's Cathedral. Admission to services is free (during the rest of the week you need a fat wallet ) and at 15:15 on a Sunday you are uplifted by choral evensong and afterward entertained (most weeks) by a magnificent recital at 17:00 on the fine Father Willis (much improved by Noel Mander) organ.

If you arrive before 15:00 AND ask the Wandsman very nicely AND are prepared to stay for the whole service you just might be allowed to sit in the choir stalls from where you hear the choir to best effect. St.Paul's Crypt has the finest lavatories in the City of London, a shop and a basement cafe.

To check for specific music to be performed during the Sunday services surf to http://www.stpauls.co.uk/rindex.htm
