A Conversation for Psychiatry

I found this article, and immediately decided I had to join as a researcher!! I'm a psychologist in real life, and I thought the article was both hilarious and insightful. (The line about denial being part of psychiatry, or rather not, threatened my lunch with nasal expulsion). I find nothing in it that is offensive to the mentally ill. I do find bits in it that might be offensive to psychiatrists and psychologists, but hey, we need a good swift kick now and again! See Szasz for a discussion of the social implications of the label "mental illness." Suffering is very real, and we need to deal with it with compassion, kindness, love, and in extreme cases, ECT, but we need also to avoid taking ourselves too seriously.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
