A Stiff Valentine
Created | Updated Feb 11, 2009
For reasons I don't understand
I think I need you close to hand.
For without you, my life would be...
Less pleasant. Surely you agree?
So stay with me and know that I
Am fond of you, I don't know why.
Affection is not quite the word,
But more than that would seem absurd.
For on my lips can never dwell
Deep sentiments that might compel
Reactions springing from the heart:
No rhapsodies, no Cupid's dart.
The ways of it I will not count:
It has no cost and no amount.
A red, red rose does not compare.
No summer's day's like you, I'd swear.
The similes I can't refine,
But still, you are my valentine.
