Tueday, November 7th at 7:30 mst. The L.A. Kings host the Phoenix Coyotes. Your host at the Corner of the Laughing Dog (until the name changes) will be The Skylion. Should be fun. And I promise to keep it down. I run a respectable basement.

Since I posted that bit on Storr's inconsistency, he's been on a roll. He stopped another 30 shots in a 4-1 win at the New York Islanders. The game that originally started his slump, though, was a 6-5 loss at home... against the Dogs. Redemption time? smiley - winkeye

Don't be fooled by the number of losses the Kings have taken already. I was quite disappointed myself until I took a good hard look at their schedule. They just concluded a brutal opening that had them on the road for 12 games out of 16. Looking on down the road, that sets them up for a 14-game stretch in March that keeps them in California... short jaunts to San Jose and Anaheim are the only road games in that span. You're going to see a refreshed, energized team making noise towards the end of the season, and they're not doing half-bad right now.

I know that tonites matchup will be hot. Even since the Kings got Palfy last season, and managed to get Storr in decent shape, they have been on a tear. The only things to me that keeps them consitent is Lucky. The man knows his wheels and he has great hands. So match him and Ziggy vs. Roenick and Co. (along with Teppo and Jyrki) and the stuff should be smothered. Be There.

Hey Colonel, I hope you are out there. The Kings have won 3 in a row on the road. But the coyotes are undefeated in 11, and have won 7 staight at the Stapels. This should be reeeeeal good. Storr is in goal. Burke is between the pipes for my Dogs. NHL player of October.

The league's highest scoring team meets one of the stingiest in a divisional matchup that features two red-hot goalies. 2 Goals to Glen Murray, and a nice 2--1 break executed by Smolinski and Blake on the power play were enough for a 3-3 tie. How anti-climactic. Nobody ever feels good about a tie, but I suppose it could be worse. Would have been a whole lot better, though, if Stumpel hadn't fanned on that clear chance in overtime. And Ziggy's scoring streak came to an end. He fares a whole lot better when he plays opposite Luc, but I do understand the coach's reasons for seperating them. Two legitimate scoring lines are what was always needed in LA's playoff drought since 92 (yeah, they've been twice, but got swept both times), and Murray definitely benefitted from having Luc on the side of him, and the early Rookie of the Year candidate Steve Reinprecht in the middle. However, that does leave the top line to be centered by the playmaker Stumpel, the scorer Palffy, and... uhhh... whoever they happen to put on the other wing on that particular night. Looks like the experiment with the young Slovak hasn't quite panned out, and it looks like he's down in the minors. I like them giving Jason Blake a try over there, since he's got terrific speed, but Russ Courtnall and Craig Johnson have shown us in recent years that speed isn't the whole answer. The kid still has some raw skills, but hopefully partnering with those two dangerous players will mature him in a hurry.

Thank you for the breakdown, Col. Regretably I missed most of the game last night. My wife and I had alot to dicuss, and she got of work about 12:00am est. I hate ties as well. Mostly because Pho. has done up three straight, all against thier division. Tonites game back home with the Wings might step them up a little. I'm a little rusty with how the Red Wings have been playing of late, but know that they are no slouch.
Interesting you gave me that Pang link. It seems all and sundry at ESPN are hailing my Dogs as Cup winners this season. I wish they wouldn't jinx like that. I have watched my guys bomb out after the ALL-STAR break for the past three season straight. Then play touch and go until the playoffs only to lose out in the first round.
I may be online tonite for the game, but me and the missus must come first, and tonite we get to play around enjoying the marriage without all the pressures of child raising for awhile. Well, maybe.
Take is easy.

Well, 9 minutes left in the third period, Detroit 2 and the Dogs are zip. A Phx goal was just denied by the replay judges. So I am both surly and tired.
