Havng spent the last few days trawling though many different User Groups looking for anyone who has successfully installed Linux Mandrake on their Mac, I have as a last resort, decide to post my query here in a hope that some kind person out there may be able to help me.
I have passed successfully through all of the install stages and come to reboot my machine. At this point, the firmware doesn't recognise that Linux has been installed and switches straight to boot MacOs.
I have tried redirecting the firmware to the Linux boot disc as described in the Docs but this doesn't seem to help.
Anyone got any ideas ?

I found the only way I could get my PowerPC4400 (Tanzania board) to boot into linux was to use a program called BootX. You should have this on the distro cd somewhere. It's a MacOS prog and needs the kernel image to reside on the mac side of the hd.
What sort of mac have you got. quik or yaboot should work from the Linux side assuming you've got the openprom boot variables set.
Hope that helps you at least get into linux and start working from there somehow.

oh and the linuxppc and penguinppc organisation websites should aslo have stuff applicable to seting up the various bootloaders for different hardware as well.

Cheers for the help. I have solved this now. It was just a matter of sorting out where to point the boot-device and boot-command variables in the open firmware.
Cheers for the help though.

Got home drunk at three a.m last night having thought of the answer while staggering home. Surprisingly enough it worked.
Had to go to sleep shortly after confirming that I had solved my problem so will only get to experience my first taste of Linux when I get in tonight.
Key: Complain about this post
