Ardnamurchan - God's gift to Scotland

1 Conversation

If someone is searching for the one of the most beautiful, peaceful, scenic and isolated areas on the Scottish mainland, it has to be Portuairk on Sanna Bay, near Ardnamurchan Point. From the Corran Ferry travel 12 miles on the A861 to Strontian. Then a journey of nearly 40 miles on single track road through Salen (turning onto the B8007) travelling through the little communities of Glenborrodale, Glenbeg, Kilhoan and Achosnich brings you to this beautiful crofting communinty with uninterrupted views over white beaches and blue seas to Canna, Rhum, Eigg, Muck and many of the Inner and Outer Hebrides including Barra and Skye.

Like most of the UK it is impossible to guarrantee good weather, however, it is my experience that the best weather in this area can be experienced in June - with the added advantage of mid-summers day with Scotlands famous 'gloaming' - long summer evenings - lasting until almost midnight.

The sunsets are amazing, the scenery is rugged and the locals quiet and friendly. Don't go to Ardnamurchan if you want a pub round the corner and entertainment laid on. Do go if you enjoy walking, peace and quiet.

On a calm summer evening it is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth.
