Attempting to post to F77636?thread=560943 I get the thread intro-
"This thread is not a public announcement forum. It is reserved for editors to post important news-etc. " strange since it was on post 28 and most of those writing were not italics. Perhaps you should have moved the thread after post 5 to someplace where you did want a public announcement forum.

At any rate the announcement as i understood it was that someone was getting a promotion to a non h2g2 position and those still in h2g2 were moving to new offices.
This stands in contrast to the appearance we always had that the italics worked in some Ivory tower near the palace and that when we wanted to promote change at h2g2 we would need to "storm the tower" Are you sayingt that now the tower itself will be gone, and you will be working in some corner office at the BBC headquarters?

You're missing out on the final sentence, "Please don't start new threads here, as we anticipate lots of subscriptions to this page."
That is what the warning in the previous paragraph is all about.

GD maybe you are in brunel or somthing. I'm in Classic goo and the only thread there under the warning is the continuation of thread 560943 so why would a warning be even necessary on that page if you were just continuing a current thread? this does not make sense to me

I think Shagbark is trying to reply to the current thread and continue the conversation which is already there, as opposed to start a new announcement.

Shagbark, I've checked in all skins and frames/single page modes. The warning is the same in all, and is means don't start your own thread here.
The fact that the warning appears for each reply to a posting is a feature of the tag that puts it there in the first place

I presume that means that whoever did post#1 ignored the warning by starting thread 560943 and the announcement was intended to be rhetorical with no reply. It certainly didn't work out that way.

Post N°1 was the announcement, posted by a member of staff...
The reason that warning is there is that there are litterally hundreds of us subscribed to the announcement page, and if Joe Bloggs takes it into his head to start a conversation on there people tend to get rather irate... (plus it messes up the italics' nice clean page)
Don't worry about posting to an existing conversation, it's starting one that's the problem.
Ok, in an ideal world that warning would only appear when someone wanted to _start_ a thread, but as the software doesn't allow that (i think) then it ends up appearing every time someone hits reply.

Traveller in Time searching for the right Feedback Thread
"It has been reported before
The idea is to unsubscribe if you are not interested in the chatter. If there is a new significant correction on the announcement there will be a new announcement (new thread), so you do not have to stay informed to keep up with the news.
Currently on the GetWriting site too many people have posted/ are posting new threads on the Site Announcement page ( Community News ). You will probably not notice it but 'DNA messages' has removed today some threads from the forum as they where not on topic enough. "
