Children's stories and TV programmes somehow manage to live on long past there original remit. Bagpuss has gone from a short series in the mid-seventies to a merchandise phenomenon in the 21st century. Learn something more about the original programme here and the characters that made this quaint English effort a classic.

Ooops... forgot to mention that the entry isn't complete yet - still a few more episodes to detail. I have, however, updated the entry on the episodes - "The Giant" and part of "The Old Man's Beard". Will be updating character entries - Madeleine is a little short at the moment, for example.

In the list of ongoing characters, don't forget Emily.
A couple of grammatical things:

'Bagpuss - a saggy of cloth cat'. Should this read 'a saggy old cloth cat'?

I'd say '...and pink and white striped fur' or something.

I used to love bagpuss when I was a nipper, and this article took me right back!

Emily has been added to the entry of ongoing characters as suggested. Thanks for pointing out that omission.

The episodes "The Fiddle", "Flying", and "Uncle Feedle" have been added along with commentary on the doubtful wisdom of Professor Yaffle. These episodes are also notably as two other mice - Janey and Jenny - are mentioned by name. This has been an incredible pleasure to research and watch - I thoroughly recommend bagpuss to children and open-minded adults alike.

I think "suing" in para 13 should be "using"
I loved this article - loved the series watching it with my children in the seventies as well. Odd that I can't remember the actual stories.Roll on grandchildren

I'm gonna throw in my oar here too to keep this one on the list as I also liked the article.
I must have just left the foetal stage when I first saw them but those Watch With Mother cassettes gave us (mainly my dad) chance to see the lot again.

I'm inclined to agree - this article has matured into something top banana. I like this!
