Pheroneous

I put this forward with some pride and some trepidation.

The pride is because I have managed to write the entry in guideML, my first such.

The trepidation is because the subject(s) is(are) subjective. I am hoping that it might become the start of a multi-authored entry covering a wider range than my knowledge permits, or, at least, that any forum that arises from it becomes a good source of debate and addition.

Like, I suspect, many other researchers, I have a large and wide-ranging CD collection most of which are bought following favourable review or recommendation, and are played but a few times before being relegated to the 'Oh, I remember' pile. This Guide Entry includes music that continues to get played time after time after time. As such, I hope it may be useful to others looking for gems to savour.

Please, while we wait for recommendation or rejection, feel free to agree, disagree, or, better still, add to the list.

Pheroneous,

I really like your entry!

It contains lots of useful information about singers/songwriters whose influence on our music is very underestimated.

Just a few nitpicks: You might improve the appearance of the entry if you rename your external links. These links are shown on the right side of you entry, an a list that reads:
- here
- here
- here
hides the information it's supposed to show.

You might as well check for some typos (I think it's Elvis Costello , not Costelloe). Another Thing is just a matter of taste: Try -tags instead of -tags. They tend to look better, at least imho, esp. in Classic Goo skin.

These are just some little hints to fine tune an excellent entry.

I will post your entry to the Musicians Guild at http://www.h2g2.com/U150368. That's the place where the music lovers meet. You might have a look?

Many thanks your constructive notes, all of which, and more, have been immediately incorporated.

I know I am going to regret this, but what on earth is Assym.... No, I won't ask!

Don't go baffling me with science, it was a big enough step to try guideML in the first place!

What do you mean about 'fine tuning linefeeds and paragraphs?'?

If I combine links and headers as you suggest (which I see will enable big cuts in text), how will reader know to click the header for a link?

Fine Tuning: That's something the (Sub-)Editors are going to do anyway before the Entry enters the Edited Guide. I just stumbled over the first paragraph and the first header. I think there should be a linefeed, and it would look perfect even at the first glance.

Headers - Links Combination:
The header will be formatted as a link (i.e. underlined), that's quite clear to see. I'll try to find a maybe better solution for that problem (which is also my problem sometimes). I'll keep you informed on that.

Science:
"If you a scientific text contains a word you don't understand, ignore the word. The text will make sense even without the word. If it doesn't, ignore the whole text, as it doesn't make sense even with the word in it."

JBTW: You did an excellent first time GuideML job! (I'm so glad that my first GuideML Entry has gone down the virtual drain, shame on me!) Don't give up! If you see pages on h2g2 and think "How the h*** is that coded in GuideML?" just replace the letter "A" in the Entries adress with "TEST". That will show you the source code. Example:

http://www.h2g2.com/A447581 => http://www.h2g2.com/TEST447581

Hope this helps!

I (Think I) see what you mean about a line feed to give a bit more space around the introduction.

The idea of the headers being links is very neat, but not all artists have websites, and thus some will come up blue and underlined (in alabaster) and some plain orange. I'll think some more about that.

I investigated your entry on asymetric..... I think you probably need some quiet time. Quite a lot of quiet time. Somewhere quite secure, very secure in fact!

You mean a place like, let's say, a very well known island in the San Franciso Bay, with a nice view both to the city and the Golden Gate Bridge and, above all, a 24h security? smiley - smiley

You seem to have more than a nodding aquaintance with this island, which I find strangely worrying.

I was there some years ago (as a tourist smiley - smiley), and I liked the place. What's the worry about that?

It's like the first lines of The Beatles' "In My Life":

and some have changed....

Yes, well there are public protection issues here. I am not a vengeful man, and had in mind somewhere more comfortable, perhaps even exclusive, as in very exclusive, as in isolated.

Anyway, thanks your help with the entry. It looks better now. Tho yet to attract much attention.

I have recommended your Entry to The Towers, and guess what happened:

It has attracted attention and has now gone into the Editorial Process for future inclusion in the Edited Guide.

When it does get into the Edited Guide, you will be informed by mail, but please bear in mind it can take a while for entries to go through the sub-editing system.

Keep on writing!

Eccentrica

Hi, I'm new here, but it's great to see such a healthy discussion on a
subject close to my heart! smiley - smiley
I belong to a fan club for someone who I believe to be one of the most under-appreciated singer/songwriters of our time - Richard Marx.
His songs have been recorded by many and various artists from Kenny Rogers to *NSync,[their current hit was written and produced by him...] covering the likes of Barbra Streisand on the way, and yet all I ever hear is; Richard Who?!?!?! *grrrr* His own singing is pitch perfect and has just enough of a touch of huskiness to show the very real emtions with which the songs were written. Sorry to bang on, but you really need to hear the new CD, Days In Avalon to appreciate the true miracle of this performer/writer/producer.
Thanks for the perfect forum in which to cry his praises to the heavens!smiley - smiley

Thanks your comments. As you can see above, the enry is on its way up the queue. My original idea was that it should be a place where others could add their own bits, just as you have done here. We'll see what the editors do with it. Meantime, I will look out for your Richard Marx.
