The bass player is usually the most talented guy in the band, anyway. Which says more about the lack of talent in the other guys than it's presence in the bassist, usually.

You don't need to turn the bass up, the bassist needs to turn the treble up so you can hear him hitting the notes. John Entwistle did not live and die so bass players could sit on the root their whole careers.

Allow me to point out, if I may, that the entry was in a humorous tone and is merely my semi-serious rant about bass players who sit on their asses and don't innovate. But by all means, crank the bass as well
