David Lindley at Freight and Salvage

0 Conversations

I have the great luck (or misfortune, depending on the occasion) to live in a fantastically culturally rich area- the East Bay, California. (berkeley, for those who wonder what that means)

I work across the street from the Freight and Salvage, which has been a coveted venue for musicians from around the world since the early sixties.

Several people who work there have been prodding me for days to go see Dave Lindley perform. He is booked for june 30 and july 1. I was invited last night, and again tonight. I had to go renew my YMCA membership yesterday, so i missed last night's show.. but tonight... well, tonight i went. had i ONLY KNOWN what an experience it would be, i wouldn't have missed last night's show for anything short of the Rapture!

I was drafted to stamp hands as people handed in their tickets, and as a volunteer, i got to stay for the show. (as an added perk, i got to stamp Ms. Bonnie Raitt's hand as she came to see the show- what a truly beautiful person- she's the first person i've ever called 'gracious', and it applies in every way. Just genuinely NICE. Incredibly enough, she looks just like that in person!)

Apparently Dave Lindley has been around quite a while- and many people DO know him... he played to a packed house both nights- standing room only, with several people paying to stand in the lobby and listen!

For anyone who HASN'T heard of Dave Lindley--- FIX IT! You OWE it to yourself!!! Remember, i was once like you- and i'm telling you- i don't rave about just any old show. i love music. i've gone to plenty of concerts by some of the 'greats' past and present. However, i'm one of those people who only gets excited about what REALLY appeals to me- Dave Lindley got me excited.

The man is not just an incredible guitarist (and several other stringed instruments- some from eastern europe) i'm talking TRULY GENIUS... he's not just a great story teller that will make you laugh REAL laughter- the way you laughed when reading the h2g2 books... he's a CONSUMATE performer. he brings it all together in a way that makes you hope it will go on all night.

For those of you who DO know Dave Lindley... i have two words for you:
Hoffa Burger.

yes........ and four more:
Jelly
Furry Little Poker Chips.
