Nice to see a fellow fan on h2g2
I look forward to seeing this article finished
Amazon have got A Dance With Dragons already on sale. Unfortunatley you havbe to prebook cos its not out until June 2002
BTW, I thought a Clash of Kings was the best one. Mainly because I thought the latest book had a misleading title. The second book was far more of 'A Storm of Swords' than the third
Just my opinion.
The Red Wedding had me on the floor in shock mind.

ooo someone looked at it!!!
Yes I agree the title of book 3 was misleading...
dont get ur hopes up about book 3 being on time, my dad was GRRM's editor for a while, he sint punctual...
I have permission from GRRM to put up to 500 words from one of the books in as an exerpt... any suggestions?

You do!?
I would talk to the italics directly about that.
I suspect they'd need permission in writing for that (in fact I'm sure of it).
Somthing that isn't a spoiler I guess Most of the memorable scenes are unfortunately.
Strangely Amazon have got an exact number of pages down for book 4 - how do they know this when presumably it isn't even finished yet (and if it is - why isn't is already on the press).
Not punctual? He's not Robert Jordan in disguise is he?

Good point, I'll talk to them...
unfortunately GRRM gave me permission in an instant messanger chat so i cant prove it, but i could email him i guess
I imagine that the publishers told amazon the number of pages as an estimate as he will be aiming at a specific number... did you know when AGOT came out there were only four books planned? He has gone overboard on this series methinks

Stop! You're scaring me.
I don't know if you read Robert Jordan's wheel of time but that started out as a planned four books. Currently it's nine with no end in sight and at least two years between books.
Good as it is, it's now begining to wear very thin and the enthusiasm for it has completely gone off now.
You definitely won't get something like that in without written permission by the author or publishers. Someone once tried to put an article on building a campfire through Peer Review. It was written by another and had been put into some sort of real life scout circular magazine. The author of the article put a note at the bottom of the article saying something like 'I give my permission for this to be used on h2g2'. It wasn't enough - copyright laws require stringent proof in such cases and this wasn't sufficient. Twas all well in the end though. The article was simply rewritten and it debuted on the front page only a few weeks ago.

I think that regarding books copyright may allow for excerpts... ill ask my dad today, cos he is in publishing, and he might be able to get a letter from GRRM... who knows...
Anyway, I have emailed the italics and they are thinking about it...
Key: Complain about this post
