A Conversation for MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

Not me!

Post 21

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC

My two immediate neighbors are both completely inactive.

I have a relatively low number too, and I'm not sure how I got a number almost as low as B-17's since I've only been around a little over a month. I have a vague recollection of trying to register unsuccessfully for something hitchhiker-related a very long time ago and giving up when the server did not respond. I thought the URL had fordprefect in it (like www.fordprefect.com). Perhaps my registration was more successful than I thought, and it might give some clues as to why there are so many empty researchers pages.

I have two questions:
1. Does the system assign numbers sequentially by ones, or does it skip a few numbers?
2. Is there some way we can sell the empty low numbers to researches with higher numbers?
3. What are twiglets?

Oh you poor thing. No Twiglets? Here. Catch:
*Throws a packet of Twiglets 'over the pond'*
Don't suppose you have Marmite there either.

/* Assumes Coelacanth is still speaking English (marmite?), and catches the twiglets (whatever they are) and eats them, hoping that is what you are supposed to do to them. */

Thanks!

I've gotten down to U18645 and nothing, except for 18672 who has a name but nothing else.

How do I get there? I know it's a stupid question but I really want to visit my neighbours (129859 and 129861) but how do I get to their places??? There's a doughnut in it for you if you tell me........

1. Go to your own page. (My space)
2. Look at the URL. It's your own number.
3. Change the last digit/s. (eg to 59 or 60)
4 Press Enter

And if you can't see your URL, poke around your menus until you find something like "Show Location Bar" or something along those lines.

I've done the whole U18645 through U18745 range now, and nothing.

I've packed all of my books! It's either this or television and I have to take occasional breaks from packing smiley - smileysmiley - smiley

I'm finding H2G2 far too addictive, but it will pass.

Checked in 2 days ago and here I am !
But not much life around me I guess. smiley - sadface Except for 150742. smiley - smiley

*Somewhere* I read this:
"POPULATION [of the Universe]: None.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not everyone of them is inhabited [sic!]. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination."

Suddenly this makes much more sense, doesn't it? smiley - smiley

Ottox - Welcome to h2g2. smiley - smiley I think you are absolutely right about the population. Brilliant! It explains everything.
None of us are here at all.

Have you actually tasted Marmite, or do you just not like the sound of it?
Have a look here:

Indeed it is!
Marmite is something that people either love or hate, and there does not seem to be anything inbetween. But I still think you should try some first.

Looks like pooh in a jar, too!

My neighbors: empty on one side and not much on the other. That researcher really didn't stay around at all. Lots of vacant housing, it seems.

Found none!
