It is difficult to say this is good and that is bad about anything - all we can do as people responsible for where we live and who we live with in the world is to do as little damage as possible. I spent years doing conservation work (ie. tree planting, hedgelaying) and now I'm a dry stone waller (and sometimes other conservation related work) but on the down side I have to use a vehicle to get to where I work - you have to balance things as well as you can. I consider the work I do justifies using a car but I should probably use public transport more in my leisure time...
The planet was here before us and will probably be here after us but it would make sense to use it sensibly while we 're here surely, both for us and it.
