A Conversation for Riven, the Sequel to Myst

Riven Feedback

Another good article.

Interesting that people felt Riven was more "puzzly", but I see what you mean. To me (and I've only played it for a few hours: now I'm married, time is shortsmiley - smiley) it seemed much more direct; the frustrating but engaging thing about Myst was that you almost couldn't work out what the puzzles *were*, whereas in Riven you just toodle along and it's all quite obvious.

Oh, it's worth mentioning (here or maybe better in the Myst entry) what platforms the game runs on. I remember that Mac users were particularly pleased by it. In fact, now I come to think of it, the difference between Myst and other games (even Riven, to an extent) is almost like the difference between Macs and PCs - more arty, more intuitive, and to a certain extent more *human*.

I'm sorry, I've always been a PC sorta girl. Ever since the old Tandy 2000. I don't have an inkling of a clue about the humanistic side of Macintosh.

I get what you mean about Myst feeling intuitive, but I think the Mac/Myst link wouldn't make much sense to anyone unfamiliar with either the game or the platform. (That's a big chunk of the computing populous.) In fact, the one time I got on a Mac recently, I was completely lost. I wouldn't want to communicate that feeling to anyone considering trying the game out.
