Announcing the first 'special exhibit' at Gallery 42!
In the Shadow of the Bomb: Vestiges of the Cold War
Civil Defence Siren
This exhibit came into being after a discussion about the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. A number of us have vivid memories of 'Duck and Cover' practices, Civil Defense siren tests and fallout shelters on our basements. Having been so deeply affected by the Cold War era, we Baby Boomers are often taken aback when we encounter people too young to have experienced the fear, rhetoric, and images of life 'in the shadow ofd the bomb'.
Of course, every generation has their own 'defining' event. For our parents, it was World War II and Korea. For us, it the Cold War and the Vietnam War. The Gulf War and the War on Terror will, no doubt, define the current era for this generation. So it goes and goes and goes...
