smiley - wow What an interesting article. A little potted history of Norwaysmiley - ok. I know roughly where Norway is geographically, but know very little about the country itself. I know a bit more now. Thank you.

PS. I seem to recall that one of King Edward VII of England's daughters (can't remember which one though) married into the Norwegian royal family. Would she have been King Olav's mother?

And yes, that's correct. It was his daughter Maud that married, at the time, Price Carl of Denmark. The couple was then asked to be King and Queen of Norway, something Carl accpeted given that the norwegian people wanted him for king. There was a referendum in which, as you've probably guessed, around 79% voted yes. So they came to Norway, and Carl took the name Haakon VII and their son's name was also changed, from Alexander to Olav. Maud kept her name though. smiley - smiley
