There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

When Google first came out as a beta version, I read about it somewhere and about why it was going to be one of the best search engines on the net, and so I began using it. I never looked back, and now I use it all the time, but I'd forgotten the precise reason why it's so different, and so much better than the others. Thanks for reminding me. You might also want to mention in your entry that they decorate their homepage on certain holidays and celebrations, such as Christmas, St. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween

I'm not really here

I didn't look back after using Google. I especially like the "I feel Lucky" button.

I've never quite had the confidence to hit that one - I always go for the full listing. Maybe I should be more adventurous smiley - winkeye

Go for it, you know you want to.

After all, there's always the "back" button!

Ok, I'll do it, but if I'm not back within 2 days, send out a search party smiley - smiley "You should try everything in life at least once" said my grandfather as he stepped off the White Cliffs of Dover wearing only a wetsuit and a pair of wings made from balsa wood and old wrapping paper. Oh how we squeaked and giggled in eager anticipation of his maiden flight across The Channel, only to see him plummet to the rocks below. It's how he would've wanted to go out....

A clone of the Unix operating system. What's so special about that then? Well the man who started writing it (Linus Torvalds) decided that he would give it away. In fact he not only gave it away he gave away the source code as well. People got hold of this, looked at it and thought I can make this better and they did. They then published their additions and Linus looked and thought, "hey there's an idea I didn't know about, I'll use that" and so it still grows today in a similar manner, because he used th GNU Public Licence for his code (to allow it to be modified as long as you let others have your modifications)
More info can be found at http://www.linux.org and on the GNU project at http://www.gnu.org

I'm sure I read that Google runs on RedHat( a flavour of LINUX), can any one confirm?

Oh yes, I have heard about that before, just didn't link the two. It sounds like a really good idea.
I think a friend said it isn't really good for people like me to use though.

Well it depends on how much you know and how much you're willing to learn.
Have a look at some websites. Read some of the online books (see http://www.linuxdoc.org ) and decide for yourself.
