Akira- how could you forget Akira!? This is possibly the greatest anime ever. For more mature viewers, but definitely top-notch.
neo Genesis evangelion- another great title. I'm not a huge fan, but it's pretty great.
Any Gundam series- almost any gundam title is good, but some of the best are Char's Counter-attack, the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Victory Gundam, and Turn A.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but try it!
