It wade a noise? That's very odd, there normally silent, sure it wasn't a plane ( )
Great observations, Friday really was the best.

I've heard a few fireballs make noise as they passed overhead.
I don't know how often that occurs, but when it does, it sure is exciting!

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted Aug 15, 2000
It was most definately a Perseid meteor.
I would stake my reputation on it, if I had one.
If it was a plane, it was in serious trouble.
If it was a firework, I'll eat my hat {if I owned one}.
I have been watching Perseids for many years, 2 years ago a group of us went to a dark-sky viewing area, all from the Cleethorpes & District Astronomy Society, and my daughter. It was her first viewing, and she saw more than me, {younger eyes, quicker reactions}..up till Friday that was my best memory of Perseid watching, now I have seen my first "fireball"...Thank you, Jimi...

Fireball? What constitutes a fireball amongst what appear to be fireballs of all sizes streaking across the sky? Is it just an exeptionally large meteor, or is there something more? (Coulda been a UFO... Roswell !!!)

Only joking, sorry, I didn't disbelieve you. I'd love to see one that made a noise, cool. I've just allways been amazed at how silent it is.

Thanks floh!
Hey Nick, I've read someplace that auroral curtains sometimes make crackling noises - but I'm not able to confirm that.

Intreguing.... hmm, not sure why unless it's causing some static build up and then discharging. Cool.

Phil Posted Aug 16, 2000
That would seem like a good explanation with all those charged particles swanning around in the aurora.
OPINIONS?
Jimi X Posted Aug 16, 2000
How long should I wait for results from the two Researchers who are still blank? I've left them both notes on their homepages - should I delete them and finalize the page?
I'm ready to be done with the page. The conversations are still very diverting - I can't get over how many h2g2'ers are into the stars!
Let me know what you all think. I'd like to wrap it up and send a story to the Post. I promised Shazz they'd get the scoop.

They probably fell asleep and are too ashamed to tell anyone... give 'em notices that the final results are being recorded (say, tomorrow @ such and such time), and stick to it.
Warning: this message is going off-subject...
(Did you read A415388? What did you think? Should I try and submit it?)
OPINIONS?
Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor Posted Aug 16, 2000
Jimi - I agree with the last post.
I also find it interesting that many Researchers are astronomers, whether amateur or professional.
I am suffering from a serious case of h2g2-itis, and not doing as much as I'd like to, however I'll have more time after Friday when Survivor! finishes...
Great project, Jimi, thanks.

A415388 has been bookmarked to read. I'll let you know, OK?
OPINIONS?
Cenchrea Posted Aug 16, 2000
(Ooops! That was kind of meant for Jimi... I told him about it on another board and he said he'd read it, but I never heard back. It's just an entry on the game MYST, and I wasn't sure whether entries like that are legit.) But don't get me wrong, if you want to read it, be my guest, and let me know what you think.

OK, but I haven't got a clue what you're talking about!
About Myst
Jimi X Posted Aug 17, 2000
LOL! I went and read the entry and remembered how fun that game was, dug it out of a box and started wandering around the worlds again just for old time's sake. But in doing that I forgot to give you any feedback on your entry. I did so now and it's at the bottom of the page. Sorry!
Sometimes it's pretty easy for me to get distracted. Can ADD manifest itself in your 30s?
