Good arguments, too.
I would have tried to choose something from the beginning of the computer or telecommunication age, but it's difficult to identify something with the same unbiquity and longevity as your choice.

Lego rules!
I remember that we had Lego when we were small, and my sons had Lego, too (still have, for that matter). However, they started with Duplo, Lego's larger version, made for small kids.

Hmmm, but "Scandinavia would always have been considered a bit of a backwater in the past"? Scandinavia held many of the most important mercantile cities of the world, not to mention the Swedes overrunning everything in the 30 Years' War
