My Celestial Observances

Celestial observances? Makes me sound like a monk.

There was a very bright star to the south above a very low moon on Tuesday evening - Venus, I guess. I'll be looking out for Mercury, but it's pretty cloudy down here.

It was Jupiter. The moon was awesome. Very low, very orange, a slight chunk missing, and there was Jupiter (last column...!!) 3 deg north of moon. I also alerted everyone to it in my "Full Moon among the bees with the crab" journal, F43348?thread=5011863&latest=1 possibly you're not subscribed to that? Maybe I should have a journal alert system, because I've had complaints before that people wish they'd seen things - after I have posted them - they've read about them too late. Not everyone commits my Post column to memory smiley - winkeye but some things just happen, like Tuesday, I almost crashed my car when I caught sight of that glorious moon. Last night it was different again, rising at a different angle, and much higher, and more nearer full. But still Jupiter shone - although obviously further away - no stars visible so it's quite unmistakable.

You'd be better looking for the Venus/Mars alignment tonight, smiley - goodluck with that, it's going to be too cloudy here I reckon smiley - sadface

Yes, it was an unusual moon. It was also the first time I'd seen it for months, thanks to the BBC Weather Centre smiley - cross
