There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation May 19, 2005
I posted this a few minutes ago F2111414?thread=645235&post=7072211#p7072211 and the cinema analogy has started growing in my mind.
h2g2 could be likened to a city, as PROD suggests, and one of the buildings in that city is cinema with three or four screens. Screen one is the EG - it shows mostly documentaries. Screen two is the Underguide. It shows mostly art house films. Screen three is The Post - it shows main run features, plus shorts, documentaries, cartoons, and a few arty films like the ones in screen two.
Now, this cinema is run by one company, but it employs different sets of people to choose the films for each one of the screens.
Anyone care to expand on or dismiss this analogy? Cos I have to get ready for work... at a cinema

That would make me a projectionist... I think
I like the title 'Editor' better though.
I'll need to think about this before I respond (busy watching Senate business, rumor has it that a Star Wars character might make an appearance during this Filibuster debate) but it very much depends on what you mean by 'choose' the films for each screen.
For instance, as a UG Editor, one of the duties I have is to pick which entry goes on the Front Page (the screen, as it were) each weekend and email the h2g2 eds. But I don't really choose which entries go on the front page. I just decide when. The miners decide the entries.
If you're talking about volunteers, I'm not sure if I agree with your message (or maybe choice of words) The important bit here is that the cinema doesn't employ different sets of people. Certain people step forward to help decide. What's interesting is that on h2g2, the movie-goers decide what they'll watch - if they decide to help.
(oops, looks like I just responded!)

I don't think you're a projectionist Jodan - the projectionists where I work do bugger all except for thread a film into the machine and push buttons.
Key: Complain about this post

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
