I absolutely love the series of “Who do you Think You Are?” – totally unmissable telly.
I would love to find out more about my family tree, especially on my Dad’s side, because we know so little about it. I find it fascinating how much social history you can piece together and also find out where you come from.
I have tried to do some online digging in the form of Genes Reunited.com and looking at census records, but I do think that genealogy is one of those hobbies I might take up if I get a chance to retire. You need to have the time to sit in archive offices and libraries and trawl for names and information!! And working full time means I don’t have that!!
There is a rumour that one of my great, great grandmothers was a Romany Gypsy, which I am intrigued about. And I know my grandfather was married before he married my granny, so I would be interested to see if there were any children from his first marriage. I also want to know, just how Irish is my family? We claim Irish ancestry...but I am not convinced!
I am surprised at how emotional some people are when they find things out. I mean, I was moved to tears when Moira Stewart found her family roots in a slave trade ledger which accounted for these people as chattels. But I was a little irritated at Patsy Kensit when she kept bursting into tears ALL the time! Since I have never had lots of discoveries like this, then I guess I should see how I feel when I discover things about my ancestors before i judge though!!
