I'm afraid there isn't a chat facility on h2g2. It's a bulletin board system.
To get involved with some conversations, I suggest you try some of the threads in <./>Askh2g2</.>.
If you write a few words in your personal space it will activate your message centre and an Assistant Community Editor will come and show you around.
