A Conversation for Volunteer to be a Guru

I would like to be a guru

Sinclair

I am Rajiv Sinclair. I attend the seventh grade of the Washington International School (in Washington D.C., USA). Though I live in the US I have an english heritage, of which I am very proud. I was born in Canada and spent my first four years of life there. I then moved to Cairo, Egypt and spent another four years over there. In 1997, I
moved to the US and am still here.
In school I am taught the clarinet. Out of school I am taught the accoustic guitar. By myself I study Oracle databases; in perperation for a possible summer job. I am also trying to learn certain programming languages, but probably won't make any progress until the winter vacation. I am probably going to regret not spending the time to write this in GuideML, but I haven't the time.

Firstly, you can't use GuideML in conversations, so no worries there! I notice from your U number that you are pretty new! How long have you been here? Also, you haven't written an intro to yourself, although you've done a couple of short poems. Being a Guru is all about knowing h2g2 and how it works like the back of your hand. If you think you're up to it, keep trying. I'm just saying you might like to wait a bit, and perhaps let your h2g2 personality develop. Also imprtant is that you've hardly talked to anyone. I do not doubt you as a person, but just hope to give you a little food for thought. Nice to meet you smiley - smiley Any questions, just ask.

Hi Sinclair,

How is it going? Are you enjoying your time at h2g2?

I had an old account a couple of years ago. I am truly enjoying h2g2. And it is great for research! (I am student in middle school)

Do you find it useful for school work then? It would be really interesting to hear how you use it. smiley - smiley

Hi Abi. Just to let you know why I use h2g2. I am a student - Peta knows roughly where, (not to be posted online, I'm secretive like that), and I use the Guide as an extra source of reliable information and a source of people willing to be surveyed on topics relating to coursework for my GCSEs. It's the same stuff I'd have to do offline, wihtout all the walking around persuading people to answer questions stood in the rain and wind. I also use it because i enjoy the volunteer schemes, and almost everyone in the community is really nice. smiley - smiley

I can't wait until I can get to one of these 'parties'! Unfortunately, am not old enough to drink at a pub, and live in the Midlands. Still, can't have everything. Just to let you all know, I'll be recruiting for interviewees for a Report on uses of h2g2 soon, if you'd like to be included, let me know.

PS. Mina, love the altered name! Misdemeanours? You? Surely not. smiley - winkeye

Hi Whoami?, if your age is all that's stopping you coming to the meet up, you are more than welcome. Anyone over 14 can come, as long as they don't drink alcohol in the pub. The afternoon activity has no age restrictions on it at all.

It's more the Midlands thing really. Maybe if there's one in the summer holidays, once my GCSEs are done...

They did last year's anniversary party in July, after all the exams had finished, so you'll probably be in luck.
distance is no excuse, people manage to get here from other countries... smiley - winkeye

Coaches are cheaper, although they take longer and are very boring.
