History

Karena Andreas was born to a Russian imigrant family in the late 1970's. Although the height of the Cold War was long past, growing up was still difficult for her, learning to speak two different languages and hide her Russian Orthodox religion. As a result, she became very shy and secretive during her school years, which fed a repeating cycle of bullying and neglect from her peers. To insulate herself from the pressures of the schoolgirl society, Karena threw herself into her studies, and excelled. She graduated from high school at the top of her class, and continued into college where she studied geology, as well as how to get in and out of trouble. It was here where she earned the nickname of Scandrea, for the apparent tendency of so-called "scandalous" situations to happen to or around her.

After graduating with a Masters degree in geology, Scandrea took a job with the CIA. Learning that a military tour of duty would help her advance her career, Scandrea joined the Air Force as ROTC. Shortly after she joined, a botched eye surgery made her dependent on prosthetic lenses for life. Her published papers soon attracted the notice of the SGC, and soon the letter came inviting her to Cheyenne Mountain.

She couldn't have been more wrong when she thought it was a NORAD assignment. After her first trip through the Stargate, she was hooked, and settled down into life at the SGC.

Scandrea still carries baggage from her years as high school punching bag, but trusts the members of her team with her life. Although she is exactly like those people that get eaten by alligators in a swamp because they lie down to study that neat-o blue bug that just landed near the water, she has a mind like a steel trap, and is a good person to be thinking on your side.
