A Conversation for Rock Climbing Terminology

Find it at: http://www.h2g2.com/A393734 . I think it should form a separate entry to the current edited article on Rock-Climbing.

My other article - Rock Climbing (intended to merge with the current edited article) - uses this Terminology article as a major reference (this way a more comprehensive article is possible, without having to explain every term as it is used)

I used the same sort of strategy in Guide writing myself... saw an article on Scuba that told too little, so I enhanced it with seperate entries on scuba hazards and scuba equipment. Your articles will probably end up standing alone and cross-linked, but then you get two entries for the proice of one... what could be so bad about that? smiley - winkeye

I think this is an excellent article, but I do have one suggestion for improvement. The first section on climbing strategies uses lots of terms from the sections below it... having those terms defined *before* the reader wrestles with the more descriptive and technical section on techniques would make things easier. That section should probably be the last part, not the first.

Otherwise, as I said, a well-written article, and your descriptions are very picturesque... makes me feel almost ready to tackle a cliff myself... almost. smiley - winkeye

Cheers for the feedback!

The article has been updated, with (hopefully) a more comfortable feel to it, and with the alterations to structure you suggested.

Sorry, I was miles away.
Had a good read through, looks pretty good to me - I'm not a rock climber, but I reckon that armed with this article I could blag my way through a conversation about it! Enjoyed it a lot!!!!

At the moment, each scout is required to recommend one article each, on a designated day. When the backlog of the old list has gone, we'll be recommending five articles on our designated day. My day for this month has gone, I'm afraid. But! We scouts have our own little list of entries that have caught our eye and merit recommendation, and this is on it. So, I'm sure it will be recommended at some point, it may just take a bit of time.

NB: A recommendation doesn't mean that it has been accepted, as the Eds have the right to reject anything we submit. Because of this, the scouts will not tell somebody that their article has been submitted, just in case it gets rejected. Researchers are however told when the article is accepted.

Hope this is helpful smiley - smiley

Nice one, cheers! While you're around, I don't suppose you could take a look at the Rock Climbing article itself and give me some feedback. When you have a moment that is.

Cheers,

SW.

I shall endeavour to do it on Monday, as I am away for a long weekend. If I don't, drop me a line on my user page to remind me!

This ought to perk up your weekend...

Congratulations! This entry has been Recommended for inclusion in the Edited Guide. This forum will be moved out of Peer Review shortly, and the editorial staff will handle it from here. It will then appear on the What's Coming Up page before it makes its grand debut on the homepage as an Edited Guide Entry!

I do recommend patience, however. This process does take some time, just as recommending it did. But it's all worth it in the end. And as a bit of further advice, I would keep an eye on it if I were you, as it goes from Recommended to Pending, which means it has been edited. When it goes Pending, you can still get some last minute changes in, but when it's Edited, it'll take an act of gods. smiley - winkeye

And now, I suppose I'll go take a look at that Rock Climbing article... it's never too soon to get started on my picks for next month... smiley - winkeye
