While we have a few people still posting here, would anyone be interested in contributing to this as an unofficial collaborative topic? We could thrash this out in the conversation here, rewriting paragraphs or sections to make them more Edited Guide friendly and actually cover this topic properly.

originating apparantly from the term "CHatham AVergae" the word "Chav" has come to denote a particular social group, of young people who some others see as lower in status and / or anti social and violent. "Anti social behaviour is associated with chavs, as "England batting collapse" once was with cricket...

The Kaiser Chiefs song 'I predict a riot' is about Leeds, which has a fair few 'chavs' around... (or 'townies' or wotever they call rough teens round your way)

I'd suggest that as teamelectra hasn't posted for nearly four months now we should move this out of PR and into Flea Market so someone else can pick this up if they'd like to.

Do you seriously think that there is anything worth saving here? This, and the other chav entry that was floating around struck me as, at best a hodge podge of stereotypes and generalisations, banged together with a sneering attitude and served up for our delectation.

Surely it should be back to entry with this.

Jimster suggested it might work as a collaborative entry, but I'm easy either way.

Whilst I agree that there is scope for an entry on the 'chavs' on the basis of examining the society conditions that have led to the creation of this young male underclass. The problem is that none of the entries (two? three was it?) that got into Peer Review were anywhere near that. They were all quite horrible, and I felt slightly soiled that such rubbish was being seriously put forward for inclusion in the EG.

Hands up, I tried to make the subject lighthearted by introducing the different types of ned, as we call them north of the border. I did try my best to keep it tongue in cheek but it seems to be a difficult subject to write about
