A Conversation for Why do we play Golf?
It's what you make of it

I once had a friend who claimed that golf was the ideal thing to do when stoned. You get into a good frame of mind, walk around in a parklike setting, talk, and have the game as a framework to hang the day on.
Golf, like most things, is what you make of it. It can be a zenlike pursuit of excellence, or a source of frustration, or a venue for business deals, or a way to enforce a class system.
What is "out there" isn't as important as how you approach it.
