In Goo, a message is displayed in the status bar when you hover over the options in the goo on the left.

Why does this not happen in Alabaster, and the "Help!" button in Goo?

I will find out why there is not "Help!" button in Goo, but it should be added eventually.
It is true that there are no messages in the status bar. They probably will be implemented as well.

Thanks a lot for spotting and reporting these problems! smiley - smiley

That first sentance made very little sense.
I meant to talk about status bar text.

But yes, the status bar text was probably just forgotten as it is not the most fundamental thing and can be easily forgotten. For the sake of consistancy it should be added though smiley - winkeye.

That's odd - there is indeed hovertext (or status bar text) in Alabaster. It works fine for me - we put it in specially in Ripley 1.3...

Which browser are you using? It works fine on Netscape and Explorer on a PC (just put your pointer over the buttons and the hovertext will pop up), and in Explorer on a Mac. Netscape on a Mac doesn't support this feature...

I'm using Explorer 5, on a PC, Windows 98SE,.. I still don't see status bar text.

I tried in Netscape 4.5 too, no status bar text there either.

So it works in Bruce's IE5.1 on Win98SE, it works on my IE5.0 on Win98SE, but it doesn't work on Lisa's IE5 on the same OS. I also get popup text on Netscape 4.6, but it's not the TITLE, text, but the ALT text, which isn't as much fun. Help!

Do you get popup help text on other sites when you place your pointer over navigation buttons, Lisa? Try http://www.bbc.co.uk/ - do you get popup text over the links to the left, and the Online graphi at the top? I do...

I can vouch that our HTML is correct and contains both ALT and TITLE tags for the navigation graphics in both skins... and I'm not sure there's anything else I can suggest.

Urgh! These problems are sent to haunt us. smiley - sadface Let me know if the above gives us any pointers.

Funny thing is, I *do* get the status bar text for the links on the left in *h2g2*, eg Front Page, My Space, etc, but not the others and Alabaster

on the BBC site: I do get pop-up text, yes.

I am getting the pop-up text, What I mean is text in the status bar, right?

Sorry smiley - sadface

Ah! I think that might be the confusion.

Some browsers show pop-up text. Some show the same text in the status bar. They are one and the same, and your browser will do one or the other.

None of the browsers I use do status bar mesages any more, 'cos pop-up text is deemed to be much more sexy.

So - I contend that it's all working fine, and that this whole discussion has been over a misunderstanding. smiley - smiley

Hope so - if you're getting the pop-up text, then you're getting the lot.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. smiley - smiley
Glad it isn't a problem then.

All I was reporting was the fact that half of the links have status bar text and half don't.. smiley - bigeyes

Looking at the HTML we produce, all the navigation buttons have both alt and title text, and their syntax is the same... si in theory all the buttons should behave the same.

Never mind. I think we've all exhausted this one, and thanks for reporting it anyway, Lisa.
