RFJS__ - trying to write an unreadable book, finding proofreading tricky

I just looked at the <./>Info</.> page, and it displayed the most recent Entry as :

A0 Akashanantyayatana - How to Build Your Own Tardis

(The A0 link produced 'No such Guide Entry'.)

I tried reloading Info, and it now gives:

A8737770 Akashanantyayatana - How to Build Your Own Tardis

This works properly. Presumably A0 was some sort of isolated error.

These things are possible very occasionally because we allow 'dirty reads' from the database, meaning we can read data before it's been fully committed. In this case, the GuideEntry row would have been created, but the h2g2ID field was yet to be calculated and written to the row before the Info page read it.

It's a very rare side-effect of having to allow dirty reads to increase concurrency in the database.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
