When you enter a "Subject" in h2g2 containing, for instance, "<" or ">", they get converted to HTML entities "<" and ">". However, the display routine doesn't have HTML entities enabled, so just displays the > or < in the thread.
This *only* seems to happen with the first post on a thread; if you correct it back to "<" and ">" later in the thread, the correction sticks.
So...
What are you doing to the first post that you're not doing to the others? (or vice-versa)

I've got a bugette as well. Quite a few people replied to my Alternative Writing workshop thingy, but now I can't find it. I've only replied to 2 of them and they both ended up in the same place.
How do I go about replying on a one-to-one basis. Oh hello Peet! What are you doing here?

What does 'Muse of Lateral Programming Ideas' mean? Being serious, for a moment. Are you really a computer programmer or is that just a 'made up' name you gave yourself?

I used to be a programmer; nowadays I just tinker a little. However, I have a talent for figuring out innovative ways round problems.

"How do I go about replying on a one-to-one basis."
If you want to talk specifically to one person, go to their personal space and use the 'Leave a Message' link (but be aware that all such messages are public anyway and can be read by anyone). But the way things are usually done here is to reply to people where they are talking to you, so the conversation follows on.
Your AWW thread is here: F74130?thread=1550112
The reason you're getting confused is that all replies to posts in a thread will appear at the end of the same thread, in the order they are posted. Don't worry - it doesn't take much getting used to. And you can always use the tree gadget (the graphic with small blobs next to every post) which will link to the message you've replied to. There's a key at the bottom of every page telling you what the blobs mean.

> "And you can always use the tree gadget"
Except on the new dna sub-sites for the message boards, where they deliberately took it away from users.

Good thing we're talking about h2g2 then, isn't it?

U2144927 uses Radio2 as well though (and Radio4 and Blast).

But their question was specifically about posting on h2g2, in the AWW.

Does it matter that I use Radio 4 and Blast? Surely we can go anywhere we like on t'internet can't we?

Someone's just offered me their address. Is there are a safe way of exchanging addresses on this website?

It doesn't matter that you use them but it may matter to you that you can't use the tree gadget on them (as you might otherwise have expected to be able to do).

c_r, not really. Anything you post will be visible for all to see, forever. Give them an email address where you don't mind receiving lots of cr@p and arrange to swap "real" addresses by email, if you must.
Key: Complain about this post
