Strange userpage bug

When at home I bring up H2G2 in a new browser (netscape 4.6 or 4.7 not sure on Linux) and I try and bring up forums in new windows it takes me to URL like: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U55494/F19585?thread=100569&latest=1 which will take me back to my home page. If I manually edit the URL to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F19585?thread=100569&latest=1 then it works and pages display fine from then on. I think I saw this a few times before the site went down but I'm not at all sure about the reproducability of it all :-(

At a guess, your browser (or you perhaps) has appended a / to the end of the shortcut to your user page. It shouldn't. That's not a directory specifier, it's a file, so shouldn't have a / at the end.
I'd be interested to know if it is your browser misbehaving, but it's unlikely in that case that h2g2 can fix it.

I'll have a play when I'm at home later and see what I can find out for you. As you say it's probably something going screwy at my end, not your but I thought I best bring it up.

Well having done some playing, it was me who managed to screw it up.
I must have been adding a trailing / automatically as the U55494 bit doesn't have a file type extension so my brain kicks into directory type every now and again.
At least it's cleared up now, thanks for you response
