play around in a part time band with my friends... i got lucky 2 of my good friends are brothers who are both pretty decent guitar players . how to succed at auditions... try to know what type of music the band your playing for covers or sounds like... if you mess up during audition keep going ..... in my opinion at least 1/2 of your band should have a modest level of talent musically...also in my opinion no there are no shortcuts to learning an instrument.. you have to put in the work to be any good.....secret to gettin early gigs... open mic nights and work for free at your local bar/pub.... i have never gotten over stagefright personally but i just hyperventilate for the first few songs then im fine, normally someone will crack a joke onstage that only the band can hear then i relax.... a good place to find info on all sorts of technical stuff is www.activebass.com there is a link on this site to other sites of the same nature for different instruments. and thats all for now
