Entry: Asteroid by Pete Moore - A3837224
Author: Mina - U290

Two things I'm not sure of in this entry - the year the music was written (I've seen 65 and 68) and the chart number Whole Lotta Love got to - I've seen number 2 and number 3, and 1995 and 1996.

Apart from that, I think this is ready for PR!

Maybe a little more info on who the heck these people are for the non-UK readers...?

Maybe link directly TO "Asteroid" on the website; I wanted to listen to it, but I got bored after after perusing several pages. My clicking didn't get me any closer to figuring out who they were or why I should care.

Just my smiley - 2cents!

That link should take you to the intro page, which plays the tune. Did you let the flash intro load? If you just clicked through it then you'd have missed the track.

"Maybe a little more info on who the heck these people are for the non-UK readers...?"

Which people? Pearl and Dean? I do say they are a company who provide advertising (and there is a link to the website). I don't want to get bogged down talking about them when the entry is about the music, and I'd just be repeating everything on their own site.

I never let Flash intros load; I didn't know that's where the song was. I just watched it, and the intro doesn't tell us that that is, in fact, "Asteroid" that we're listening to. So, you *could* mention that, as a help.

So, the website tells us about Pearl & Dean - who's Pete Moore?

I'm not saying it's a bad article, it's a great start!

I think it's clear enough - the link says that the track can be listened to on the website, then links straight to it - it's obvious what track I'm linking to I think. I'll add that people should let the intro load to hear it though.

There isn't much info out there about Pete Moore, so unless anyone out there has anymore info to offer then what you see is what you get.

Any other comments?

I'm surprised this one has been so quiet, but I suppose that I must be the only person who really likes this tune. It's the ringtone on my phone... smiley - blush

If I were to do an article about "Repent Harlequin" by Tom Bouchet
I doubt if anyone would think it worth a place in the EG and isn't that waht Peer Review is about? I also never heard this song or its
composer before but then I'm in Michigan. Perhaps younger researchers in NYC or London might know it. the title of the article misled me
into thinking that this was an aricle in the category astronomy. Once I read it I immediately saw my mistake. On second Thought maybe I will do an article about the Tom Bouchet song but I will mark it not for review.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

So *that's* what it's called smiley - biggrin Y'know, I somehow never thought that this piece of music was actually composed - it just seemed to have always been there, like the Rock of Gibralter. It's like it just fell from the sky and landed in the collective lap of P&D smiley - laugh

You *have* to fit 'Just five minutes from this cinema' into the entry somewhere Mina smiley - tongueout

"Asteroid was written in 1968, and composed by Pete Moore, and played by his orchestra"
One too many 'and's in there I think.

It would be nice to find out a bit more about the composer, but if there's nothing out there on the web about him I guess it's difficult to know where to go. Newsgroups? Messageboards?

Hmmm... have Google done away with their Newsgroup search? I can't find it any more smiley - sadface

I assume from your comments that you don't think this is worthy of the EG? shagbark? That's a shame, I'm sure there are entries on other sorts of advertising in the EG.

Gosho, I've changed that 'and', and the newsgroups are still there as 'Groups'. I'll have a flick through some of those to see if I can find any more info.

Well that was quick. Loads of info about the tune and what it's called, but nothing about the man and his orchestra himself. smiley - sadface

I finally found a link with a review and some very funky album covers on it, so I've added that.

here's a link to the article I said might be forthcoming. A3855035
If others (particularly scouts)think your article belongs in the EG fine. Mine is only one voice among many expressing my personal view. I still say the title should say it is a song (not a chunk of rock in solar orbit).

Well it's in quotes, which does give a bit of a clue, but I'll add 'Orchestra' to the title to see if that's better.

Smij - Formerly Jimster

According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles, that would be No. 3 and 1996.

Would this be a little closer to the tune?:

'Papah papah papa pa papapapah...'

Lovely concise entry this, Mina. Nice one!

I really liked this entry, mainly because I've always wondered about the tune's history. However, I suggest it would benefit from a line-by-line deconstruction of the lyrics smiley - evilgrin

Oh I just thought Jimster - I hope that I'm not now quoting so many of the lyrics that I'm breaching copyright. smiley - yikes
