I went to stonehenge fairly recently and turned onto the road going to the car park and was completely blown away by the stones. When I was there though (on the site) I found that there was less of a feeling of ambience and majesty than I expected, mostly from the number of people walking around as well as the ropes keeping people away from the stones. I've spoken to my parents who went when the stones weren't roped off and they said the feeling was a lot different from the one I described.
I'd say that the Avebury stones are more amazing than Stonehenge's current state.
