New takes on superhero films

I've not seen Hancock yet, but I'm glad that the studios are now moving past the fairly simple DC/Marvel-superhero-action-movie formula. I'm also looking forward to seeing The Dark Knight, which though obviously based on a familiar superhero, seems like a fresh approach to the genre. I'll have to see it this weekend and decide.

Seeing this article made me go back into your archives, Awix, to look over some of the old 24LAS. The 'Adaptation' one is particularly brilliant.

It's always a treat to see one of your reviews in smiley - thepost.

As ever, people are much too kind about a random selection of tired old jokes and baseless polemic...

One of the things that occurred to me while I was watching this movie is that it marks some kind of a watershed - the superhero movie is now such an established genre that it can be parodied without fear of the audience not getting the jokes. (I suppose the existence of Superhero Movie demonstrated this first, not that that justifies its existence...)

I'm very interested to see if Dark Knight lives up to the buzz. Fingers crossed the review will make it into the next column (which looks like turning into a giant sized edition). Though I do think the Batman movies by their very nature lose one of the more interesting aspects of the character - the fact that despite being just a regular person in a world of gods and aliens and cyborgs, he's still considered the most dangerous man on the planet...
