This one seems ok. Is it suitable for the paragraph your planning to include it in Ron?
If it is, this is how you insert it, using the word "gastrectomy" as the linking word.
gastrectomy
If you're happy with this link, copy and paste it to your Entry, if you're not, no worries, we'll just pick another. No rush, take your time, you've done a lot today.

Hi Emmily,
Thank you for searching for this link. Now, please don't be angry with me, but, having read it, I think it is a bit of a gloomy and depressing read for anyone facing the operation, and also for those, like myself, who are living with the consequences of the operation.
I looked through some selections in Google and came up with an optimistic and useful bit of information re. diet and how to avoid the worst effects of the 'dumping syndrome'. It is entitled: 'Jackson Gastroenterology' with sub-title:'Anti-Dumping Post- Gastrectomy Diet'. This has a link as follows:
http:// www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs09.htm
How would I go about linking to this one Emmily?

OOooppppsss Ron, from your reply to LBclaire about not knowing much about the actual surgery I thought you'd want one about that, my mistake
hope it wasn't too gloomy and depresiing.
To add your choice, copy and paste below
Anti-Dumping Post-Gastrectomy Diet
Hope this works, when I tested it, I had a few probs with it, seems to be fine now though.
I've used "Anti-Dumping Post-Gastrectomy Diet" as the linking words, you can change that to anything that suits.

Simpost it took me a while to test it
Ron, I'm baffled. Your link looks correct, I've studied your and my link till I was and I can't see any difference, but for some strange reason, yours does not work.
You could any word, I'll try monkey as the 'title' so it's not that.
Monkey

Hi Emmily,
There is absolutely no need for you to apologise. You are right that Lbclaire suggested a passage or two on the operation; so I can well see where you were coming from. No worries!
I tried that link of mine too, and got myself in a right muddle; eventually deciding to delete it!!
We'll see what tomorrow brings now, I think, so I'll wish you a good night and close for today.

You've had the weekend off, ready for the next phase now Ron?
Somehwere is this thread, I believe you said you didn't expect your Entry to get to the Front Page Ron, but that is what it's in PR for, and if it stood no chance at all, I think the Editors would've 'popped their heads' in the thread and said so by now.
What I'm doing at the moment is asking you to change a few things so it fits with the EG Standard/format, so that when/if you add new paragraphs you'll be able to do so following the format.
Numbers below 10 ought to be written; ie 2nd para
>"It took me a full 2 weeks" ~~> It took me a full two weeks
You've also got numbers in;
4th Para (I'd leave the "6 to 36" that may be an exeption when it starts with a low number and finishes with high, unless someone else advises to change it, assume they are correct. )
1st and 2nd para under S/heading "What to eat and what to avoid:"
Lots under 'Anti-Dumping' link
Also in that para, if it's weetabix you mean, as far as I'm aware, you can say that if you want to, you're not advertising or recommending it.
And the 'Anti-Dumping' link may need to be worked into the text of the Entry, no worries at the moment, but something to think about.
That'll do you for now.
Emmily

Nice to see you again Emmily,
Thank you for those next pointers. I'll get to writing those numbers this evening. I tried to work the link into the Entry the other evening and couldn't get it to work out neatly. I'll have to be a little more inventive to merge it in successfully, I think.
Yes, Weetabix it is! So I'll change that also.
I don't know about being a star Emmily; more a burnt out white dwarf, I think. As long as I don't become a black hole too soon!
Ron.

I see you've sorted the numbers, great Ron
Next is a suggestion, that others have also noticed and suggested, but I think maybe got lost in the conversation.
Amongst the posts in this thread, you have mentioned some positive aspects of your life, right from the first post:
>"I have to say that I feel very healthy, considering the fact that I underwent such a drastic procedure."
As you have removed the "(9)Nine years after the procedure" from the title, it may be a good idea to have a pargraph, maybe before "Final Thoughts" Header, starting something like: "Nine years after the operation/surgery/procedure (whichever you're happiest using) and a selection of some of the positive aspects you've mentioned in post 1, post 33, post 49, post 66, post 69 plus anything else you think fits with that. Do you think that would be a good idea Ron?
Give it some thought, take your time Ron, no rush
Also, you mention in post 74, that you drink water that is both filtered and boiled (I assume cooled as well) is there a reason for that?

Thank you Emmily.
I shall do all that you have suggested. You seem to be reading through the thread and working very hard for my benefit; so it's you who's the Star!
Early tomorrow morning we're going down into Shropshire for a short break,
so I shall resume work on the piece around next Sunday or Monday.
In the meantime, take care of yourself and your family and I'll see you again very soon.
Would you allow me to include you on my list of friends Emmily, please?
Ron,
(frontiersman.)

Enjoy your short break in Shropshire Ron,
If you could let me know when you've updated your Entry next week.
Yes, you can add me to your friends list, thanks for asking first, and if you don't mind, I'll add you to my friends list.

Hi again Ron
Nice to see you've added a bit more, as they're part of the personal parts of your Entry, they ought to be in Blockquote and Italic.
The paragraphs you've added under "Present lifestyle:" seem to jump about a bit, but I can't get my headaround how to suggest to improve that part to read more smoothly, maybe someone else has some ideas there.

Hi Emmily,
Thank you again for your valued help and advice.
I shall do as you have suggested and put the latest additions in blockquote and Italics.
Yes, I agree absolutely, the new passages are too random and disorganized, so I will have to think about rearranging them into some kind of order.
Other researchers are quite welcome to suggest how best to group the sentences/paragraphs if they feel so inclined.
All input is appreciated.

Hello again, Emmily,
I have just revised and added a section entitled: 'Origins of the disease'; and re-ordered some of the paragraphs in the section 'Present lifestyle'.
This is to try to save you having to read the piece too many times!
I think that link you , or one of your colleagues, suggested might now fit in nicely with the paragraph in: 'Present lifestyle' that refers to the range of surgical options that exist today in cases such as my own.
That is the one I felt, initially, to be to graphic; but I've now thought about it and think it would be useful information to any pre or post operative patient.
Please give me your views on these points Emmily. There is no hurry, of course, as I will be away for the next 2 weeks.
Ron

No Emmily, early Monday morning, we hope!
I will have to learn how to use the index references so that I can select and enter my own links!
Thank you for all your input, as always!
Kind regards,

Lbclaire Posted Jul 1, 2005
Hi Ron,
Well done for continuing to refine your entry - it's looking much better now, as Emmily said.
I had some thoughts about how you could lay it out in a more factual v experience type way, without losing any of your words. I couldn't work out how to explain this, so I hope you don't mind but I copied it into a new entry and fiddled about with it a little. It's at A4323368 if you want to take a look. I've added a few more 'medical' bits, but it would be useful to get a medically-minded person to check them over, just to make sure. I know we have a few on here - if someone doesn't turn up perhaps we could ask?
Anyway, feel free to take as much or as little from it as you like - or to ignore it altogether of course! . To see the GuideML code so you can copy and paste it, just replace the A in the url with 'test' (ie. look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/test4323368).
Have a great holiday,
Lbclaire

Hello Lbclaire,
Thank you for your continuing interest in my Entry.
I have just had a quick read right through your suggested revision and I think it is an improvement in many respects, but it will take me some time to digest the material and select what I would like, or want to change or keep. Your revised version does 'flow' well in the reading.
I noticed that you had confused, just a little, the facts that the post operative feeding is initially achieved by first feeding through a vein in the arm, and then (in my own case, after all suitable or accessible veins had 'collapsed') via a central line which is inserted through a small incision in the upper right chest close to the collar bone and passed down and across the chest in the vena carva into a heart chamber.
You have worked very hard on my behalf, and for that I cannot thank you enough.
I will not be able to incorporate your changes until about mid July, but do not think I have abandoned your ideas!
See you mid July then,
Ron

Lbclaire Posted Jul 2, 2005
Hi Ron,
Glad it's useful to you.
I see what you mean about the central line - I'll change that bit. I just wanted to make it clear that it was a drip, not that you were having liquid food pumped into your heart (which wouldn't do you a lot of good! ). When you refer to liquid food in the next paragraph, are you referring to the fluids in the drip or to the liquid food that was pumped in through an inserted stomach/intestine tube (if you had one?).
I'm glad to help - that's what Peer Review's for!
Have a good break, and speak to you when you get back.
