... healthy societies on Earth that is, but nearly all of them have been wiped out or turned into tourist attractions over the last 10,000 years.
I'd say that people reach physical maturity by age fourteen (give or take a couple of years), so there's a problem for starters. "Society" wants you to keep a lid on your hormones for a good few years until you're married with a mortgage. You know, it just ain't natural!
I've got to agree with you on psychological maturity though. I think for a whole lot of people this never happens, but I guess with everyone treating everyone else like an idiot the whole time it's very hard not to act like one.
