I am Donald Sutherland

Well you live and learn.

As the RNC only got the title in 1979 I was a bit behind in my knowledge.

However, further research indicates that even six is a little on the conservative side.

Good entry.

"The NWMP were to be a mobile, well-armed, well-trained paramilitary force whose prime strategy, however, was to be community policing."

Community policing doesn't seem like a strategy to me. Seems like an action or a goal.

Under Origins, the first subheader is models, followed with three paragraphs. Seems to me that only the first paragraph is about models. I think an underlying theme in those three is simply Background Information.

Hi, Jodansmiley - smiley

perhaps 'method' would be the word?

I'm going to go and look at these items right now and I'm sure I will consider and adopt your suggestions.

See what you think of the changed heading. As to community policing, I've had a look around and I think I might defer to Michael Palmiotto, PhD: http://criminaljustice.jbpub.com/catalog/0834210878/smiley - winkeye

The title of that book is "Community Policing: A Policing Strategy for the 21st Century". Your entry says "The NWMP were to be a mobile, well-armed, well-trained paramilitary force whose prime strategy, however, was to be community policing."

Your use of the word strategy would be appropriate if you said what the strategy was for - what the purpose of the strategy was. The book title clearly says Community Policing is a strategy for policing. Anyway, if you inserted a purpose so that it would be "whose prime strategy for policing, however, was to be community policing", I don't think you'd acheive the point of your sentence, which is to say that it is a military-like body functioning as a community police force.

Since most of my extended family lives in Canada, both my parents having emigrated to the States from the north, I had to stop and read this fascinating entry.

I do have two suggestions.

In the introduction, it might be worth mentioning that a lot of children first learned of the RCMP through their exposure to the cartoon character, Dudley Doright(sp?).

You may also want to include a link to the EG entry on the Battle of Little Bighorn. A627275

Great entry! It manages to condense a fairly comprehensive history into a relatively short space.

As I mentioned earlier when Rev. brought up a certain cartoon character, I was hoping to leave the Hollywood myth to a different, lighter entry.

As for the link you suggest, I'm off to do it right now.smiley - smiley

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
