This looks great, GB.smiley - ok I just have two comments:

<>

I feel like these sentences seem a little out of place in the surrounding text. I think it might work better if it read, "The Poème sur le désastre de Lisbonne was written while Voltaire was still suffering from shock (although that shock was mitigated by delight when he learned that members of the Portuguese Inquisition had perished just as they were about to publicly burn some Jews as heretics)." The rest of the paragraph can follow from there.

I wonder if it would be possible to use my own translation for the initial quote? It goes like this: "Oh Pangloss!" cried Candide, "you had not divined this abomination; it is so done that in the end I must renounce your optimism.""What is optimism?" said Cacambo."Alas!" said Candide, "it is the passion for maintaining that all is well when it is bad."

Thank you!
