Question of the Day

This is almost certainly HP-Unix specific, but here goes:

From where can one get a PostScript driver for a HP printer (LaserJet 4 Plus) for installation on an HP-Unix machine (11.0)?

A few questions for you the Administrator-General...
Is the printer a networked printer or is it being connected directly to the machine? The other query is that the HP LJ4+ you want to connect talks postscript doesn't it. I think it should do but I'm not sure.
Anyway getting to the heart of the matter, you need to set up the printer in the /etc/printcap file and setup the spool files for the printer as well (usually /var/spool/lpd/*).
Other handy hints and tips can probably be found searching deja, I normally use a power search (http://www.deja.com/usenet ) and on metacrawler (http://www.metacrawler.com/ ).

I'll go and have a look and if I see anything I'll let you know.

and quickly I found a couple of ideas for you.
the lpadmin command in hp-ux and the use of the jetdirect utility to configure the printer (they said to make sure you've got the latest version from HPs website).

(1) The printer is networked. (2) It has a "PS Menu", which is to say, it has a PostScript card loaded in. (3) /etc/printcap may be exactly what I'm looking for. I'll go check, after Independence Day holiday is over... (USA! USA!!)

Anyway, thanks very much for your help.

A more trivial Question of the Day, but something I've had to deal with in documentation:

Is our favorite operating system spelled "Unix" or "UNIX"? Is the capitalization important?

And I prefer unix as it isn't a standard trademark like Unix (and possibly UNIX) so it can include things like HURD and Linux which are never likely to go through The Open Group's standards track.

Sorry to disappoint you, but 1 version of linux has gone through the standards track, and is fully posix 1.0 complient, and as linux is made up of freely available pd code, most versions of linux will also be posix complient.

Go on then, Which one?
And yes I know that Linux is mostly posix compliant.
