This is a series of poems dealing with the recent Tsunami in the Indian Ocean. Each is linked to the next in the series.

The Tragedy of 26th December, 2004

A few seconds churn

On ocean fringe coast

A million swept away

In tragedy utmost

Asia lay

Soaked in salt

Her half breathing gestures

Struggling to halt

The death of a fisherman

And a girl and a boy

Dug like a toy

In sand swept island

Somewhere in Thailand

What do we know clubbing at night?

The froths of beer

And candle afright

Would you take the orphans back home?

Or spend the money on crime warzones?

Asia floats on Christmas tear

The death toll rising

How would she bear?

Hands hands looking for rice

Some food some aid

Who pays the price?

Asia will rise

From her rubble and wreck

From Japan to India

You have to wait.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
