Well here we are on the lake.
If you need any help getting into your boats or you can't decide which boyancy aid looks best with you boat, then just ask

I always did like the simple large surf-ski. Very stable, slower than most, but stable, and that's what counts.
Do you have any? And are you going to link to the river?

Bluebottle Posted Jun 18, 2000
I'd like a blue one. (And I saw you'd linked after I'd posted. If only we could delete)
Do you fancy becoming an official part of the waterworks sometime?

*Ignore's bit that we've already talked about...*
Here you go....
*Hands Bluebottle "simple large (blue) surf-ski*
Try that one on for size
Would you like to start the course or wait for some more interest???
The Kayaking Course...getting started
Bluebottle Posted Jun 22, 2000
I think we should wait for some more interest. The main thing is to tell people about this place. But in a nice way, and not in a spam way. If someone talks about something water related, say "did you know there's a...." and give a link, and let people come. If they don't know, they won't find.
I'm on a course.

Would you like a hand with the course? I can help with teaching some of the simple stuff (like going forward/backward and turning )

The Fish Posted Jun 26, 2000
Yes, of couse Phil! I'd love some help
Do you have your own boat or would you like to hire one out?
Also if you know anyone that would like to attend, bring them along
The Kayaking Course...getting started
Phil Posted Jun 27, 2000
I'd have to hire one, as I don't own my own boat (finding ones to fit me can be hard). I'm feeling somewhat tired this morning after competing in the canoe clubs anual biathalon, 2 miles down the canal run a mile and the back up the canal to the finish
The Kayaking Course...getting started
The Fish Posted Jun 28, 2000
How long did that take? And which Canal was that?
Yes of course, would you like one of the "extra special fit" ones...
The Kayaking Course...getting started
Phil Posted Jun 28, 2000
As long as the extra special fit means it's big enough to take me and my feet (if I didn't have UK size 13 feet I'd fit into a lot more boats, but then I'd probably fall over more as well ).
The biathalon goes from the City Rd Basin, to Victoria Park, Hackney along the Regents Canal in London. My time was 75 minutes, the fastest time was 48!

That's quite alright Phil it happens all the time... I usually just think of it as an echo...
Yes the "extra special fit" range of kayaks come in all shapes and sizes... Including ones with some spare room for size 13 feet
How tall are you then? If you need feet that big for you to keep standing up?
Hmm, that sounds like fun... Your time was good though! I probably would have taken a lot longer
Do you go kayaking often then? I really should go out on my boat more often, but it's always the age old problem of time...

Phil Posted Jun 30, 2000
If you want to see all the times, go to http://www.davejones.demon.co.uk/rcc.htm (that's the main club page) and part way down the right hand frame in the calender section is a link to the biathalon and results. I finished just ahead of the beginners!
I try and go down to the club once a week, it's nice to get out and be on the water for a small abount of time. I should go paddling real rivers more often, but never mind.

Phil Posted Jul 6, 2000
That's me
Rivers are a lot more interesting than canals. As you say a lot more curvy and it's easier to move as there is current - assuming you're going downhill

The Fish Posted Jul 8, 2000
Hmm, yes... There are also lots of other boats... (if your on the thames) And locks...
One thing I haven't done yet, which I'd like to some day, is shoot a proper weir... One where you need a BIG lock to get down it normally...
Also white watering down a good mountain river would be good fun sometime...
